1 Guest Post-Friend in Fashion

I recently approached some fashion bloggers that I personally admire. I approached Jasmin of Friend In Fashion and she gladly obliged.

I chose Jasmin to guest post for Fashion Without Guilt because I loved her feminine and fun fashion personality while still keeping affordability in mind.

Friend in Fashion is a blog that features great fashion ideas and moderately priced independent fashion designers.

Fashion Without Guilt asked Jasmin, What is shopping philosophy, I know you are affordable but how do you view fashion?

Jasmin: I guess for me shopping is a bit of a release, its my avenue to be creative, to escape reality and admire the designs and creativity of designers. Fashion to me is one of the ultimate forms of self expression. It is a visual forum to display exactly who you are, how your feeling at any given point in time, the things you like and that which inspires you.

For her guest post, Jasmin shares some of her retail secrets to "stretching your FASHION DOLLAR".

I was thrilled when I was asked to contribute to Fashion Without Guilt, as much of my style philosophy is centered on ways of getting more mileage from your fashion dollar.

With this in mind, I thought I would share my 5 tips to shopping retail.

1. The best way to look stylish and fashion forward without spending the earth is to know where to shop and what to shop for. A combination of new and vintage clothing and accessories will allow you to grow your wardrobe inexpensively to create a diverse and fashionable collection.

2. When shopping retail, I generally opt for chain stores, some of my regular retail hotspots include: Target, Forever 21 and Cotton On (in Australia). You will find that the stock in these stores will reflect current fashion trends at a more affordable price point. You will generally also find a lot of variety in these stores, catering to a range of different tastes.

3. Do your research - An educated shopper will always walk away with the best bargains.

* Know when the sales cycles are and keep an eye out for times when retail outlets need to clear floor stock- i.e. end of financial year, change of seasons.

* Find out how often your favourite stores deliver new stock and how quickly your size sells out. If you know your size never sells, wait until stock goes on sale before purchasing.

* Think DIY – sometimes stock will be reduced, because a button is missing, or a hem is loose– use this to your advantage, pick up a bargain and inject your own handy work into your fashion.

4. Build strong foundations - fill your wardrobe with good basics that you can build upon. A white shirt, a pair of good fitting jeans, tights, tank tops and a black dress form a great base. You’d be amazed at just how many stylish combinations you can get out of these fashion must-haves.

5. Mix and match - I absolutely adore vintage dressing, so I love incorporating vintage finds with store bought pieces to create a truly unique, and affordable look. If you are new to vintage shopping and not confident in pulling together a vintage outfit, take small steps and start by updating one of your favourite outfits with vintage accessories, brooches, necklaces, belts or bags.

And finally, the most important thing about fashion in my opinion is to have fun expressing your personal style – you need to feel comfortable, and don’t be afraid to inject your own personality!

0 Look for Less-Kanye West Rings at Paris Fashion Week 2010

This year Kanye West and Amber Rose (his arm candy girlfriend) have been all over Paris Fashion Week. From furry creatures as coats and Amber Rose's barely there outfits have made for some great front row fashion.

But I was very interested in the accessories that he was wearing. I finally saw a close up of the rings he was sporting and I was in AWWW. I am such a lover of opulent rings. The more overstated the better. The Marie Antoinette head and pyramid eyes double finger ring are something out of a dream. They are so unique.

But since I do not have millions and can't afford hundreds of dollars in jewelry, I settled to find some rings they could give me the same look. Here are some rings from Forever 21. MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE STORE EVER.

3 SAG AWARDS BEST DRESSED

Thank you!!!! I think everyone got the memo. Because the ladies of the SAG Awards look phenomenal and stunning. I was not disappointed this time around. The ladies of the night made a great recovery from the Golden Globes. It looked like everyone was truley the "Belle of the Ball". I believe that a overall winner is comfort and confidence. You should always, and I mean ALWAYS feel a sense of comfort in what you are wearing and then your confidence will shine through.

Since they did so well, I am not going to have a Worst Dressed category this time. I know they deserved it.

0 Frugal Tip Monday- Makeup Repair Tips to Save You Money

Fashion and Beauty go hand in hand. Makeup is the next step to finishing your overall look. Whether it be just a gloss to the lips, a basic liner, or bronzer on the cheeks; Makeup is very important.

Makeup is very different than fashion in some ways. With fashion you can have a certain item and you are able to wear it until "the cows come home". In other words, you never have to get rid of it. With makeup that is a different story. The shelf life of makeup is nowhere near close to an item of clothing in your closet.

So Karen at Makeup and Beauty Blog is giving you tips to save money by fixing some of your true makeup challenges.

Salvaging Dried Up Nail Polish

makeup tips, makeup and beatu blog, karen, save old nail polish

Ladies, we have all had a good nail polish go to waste. Either you let your little sister borrow it and she left the top off or you have just used it too many times.

Karen recommends three products to thin your cakey nail polish:

1. A thinner-It contains Acetone. Karen states that this has the best results. You can typically find this in a beauty supply store. Just a few drops will do. But there are other alternatives.

2. Nail Polish Remover-Everyone has this laying around the house. Again, just a few drops and shake for 2 minutes and you get a few more nice polishes out of you cakey polish.

3. Rubbing Alcohol- This is last alternative. It does not have the best results but it surely does the job.

Smoothing Cracked Powder Makeup

saving powder makeup, makeup tips, karen, makeup and beauty blog

By dropping 3-5 drops of rubbing alcohol into the compact or pan and crushing and smoothing the makeup, it come together to somewhat solid. You will have something solid versus pieces of your makeup that you still wish you could wear.

Saving Your Flimsy Makeup Brushes

saving old makeup brushes, makeup tips, karen, makeup and beauty blog

Had a great brush that just felt like it was falling apart. You can now save it. By having a simple jewelry crimping tool, you can have a old brush back like new. Just squeeze together the top region closest to the bristles and hold tightly.

I hope these makeup tips were useful. Check out Karen at Makeup and Beauty Blog for Great Makeup and Cosmetic Review and Products.

1 Look for Less- Ann Demeulemeester Lace Up Boots

Sea of Shoes by Jane is one of my favorite fashion bloggers for Inspiration. I saw her frequently wear the Ann Demeulemeester Lace Up Boots.

These are very interesting shoes. They are a cluster of many shoes merged into one. They a look of a sneaker with a heel and openings like a sandal. I guess they just wanted a all purpose HEEL BOOT.

I do not know the extact retail price but from ebay they look like they are going for $600 on up.

0 Golden Globes 2010-Best and Worst Dressed

Where do I begin? I was not inspired by the Golden Globes at all this year. I was bored with all the black, ill-fits, and over structured dresses. I have watched every Fashion Police show out there and I have tried to really find some excitement and it has not happened.

Drew Barrymore to me is the only celebrity actress that took a risk and still stood true to the Hollywood Glamour. As for everyone else, they were a true disappointment.

Here are my Best Dressed (and I mean that lightly) from the Golden Globes:

Golden Globes Best Dressed 2010

Drew Barrymore: What is there not to love about this dress. It is dramatic, romantic, and elegant all in one swipe. Alot of people were not too thrilled with the hip accents but I thought it was something different and after all, it's Drew Barrymore she can pull this off.

Jennifer Aniston: She looks stunning in the color of the season. Nice cut and still very sexy but not over stated.

Anna Paquin: I thought she was the only person other than Drew Barrymore that really got it right. She was on trend with sequins and shine but still kept true to her style. She looked comfortable and stylish and she was not trying to hard to be glamorous, she just was.

Halle Berry: Need I say more. She is in a 40's with a body like that, she can wear anything. But most of all she showed sexy and class. There was cleavage but not enough to distract you from the overall look. I want to be Halle when I get to my 40's.

Penelope Cruz: She looked ravishing. Her hair, makeup, and dress were impeccable. She was a Spanish statue. The overall look spoke for itself. And she was the only one with stay in place hair even though there was down pour rain.

Now for the BAD and VERY BAD, The Worst Dressed of Golden Globes:

Golden Globes Worst Dressed

Fergie: She looks Horrid. Her cleavage is under her chin, she is in a prom dress, and her hair and makeup is just unspeakable. She needed not straps on the dress and a nice elegant ponytails or up off the necks style.

Sandra Bullock: The dress looked like something from a bad bridal shop. The fabric was to shiny and it is a very wrinkle worthy fabric. Her dress looked very cheap and unelegant. (If that is a word) But her hair and makeup is flawless. I wish the dress matched up.

Hiedi Klum: She is a draped purple tortilla. The off the shoulders were dated and the dress was just a NO NO. I really can't explain it, it's Wrong.

Julia Roberts: Is she going to lunch or the Golden Globes. She looks like she did not even try. You have to be "true to Yourself" but this was not appropriate. I think she needed to not even attend.

Cameron Diaz: Did she just wake up and forget the it was the Golden Globes. No earrings or jewelry. She has a very straight body frame and she wears a dress that does not show anything flattering to her figure. She needs to wake up early next time and accessorize.

1 Bandage/Bodycon Mini Dresses Under $40

I consider myself to be a Classy Lady. But as women we still would like to look and feel sexy. So when Herver Leger came out with the style of the Bandage Dress, I had died and went to heaven. He made a dress that every woman from young to old want to have in there closet in every color. But yet again, not having almost $2000 to spend on one dress, I will settle for the just as good re-makes.

Bandage/Bodycon mini dresses

Here are some way how to wear how to wear a Bandage/Bodycon Mini Dress:

1. The Dress by Itself- Wearing this type of dress is pretty ballsy move because it hides no flaws. So if you have on a more opaque color and bright colored undergarments they will show. So just make sure before you have left the house you have done a once over of your whole look. You do not want to be on the FASHION POLICE LIST.

2. Wearing something over- As pictured above, my two ladies of example are wearing something over their dress. Pairing a nice blazer or oversize sweater is always way to ensure that you are properly covered while still showing some sexy.

3. Wearing the dress as a garment- You can completely change the look of a bodycon dress by just added another garment. Putting a shirt over the dress can easily turn it into a cute skirt. And placing a skirt or pants over the bottom of the dress can turn this into a cute and casual "Instant Shirt".

So if you are a lover of these dresses like I am, Please check out some of the dresses that are under $40.
